so I mentioned Wendell Berry last week…

May 5th, 2006 by Andy

In last weeks message, I mentioned that certain authors become trusted friends over time. And I mentioned that Wendell Berry was one of those authors for me. I thought perhaps you’d like to read for yourself.

If you go here and read this, I think you’ll start to hear his voice and how it has influenced my own.

While I am particularly fond of his poetry, it is the essays like this one that truly make him a trusted friend. Why, oh why, do the voices of the apologists of violence make more sense to us than the words of Jesus (see the last paragraph of the essay)????

subvert the empire, read subversive poetry! or better yet, write some yourself!

  1. This country was founded on war, or do you think the American Revolution was internal? We are a nation in conflict, wanting the “American Dream” to be world wide, not realizing that our dream might be a nightmare for others. The irony of war is not the problem……it is the casualties of SIN that we are indifferent towards! Sin is a progressive disease, world wide, but seems more wide spread in this country, and very subtle in its influence. Sin will kill children, cause genocide in nations, use war to promote personal prosperity, and conquer nations in the name of peace. I think the real irony is that we fight for external peace, in the name of Justice, Truth, Liberty?, and the American Dream, while the real battle is being fought in the human heart subverting internal peace.
